Rare Pilgrimage
A flame flickers brightly at the peak of the mountain
Where Your temple sits both night and day.
Everyday crowds of pilgrims start this journey:
A new group embarks on the pathway. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
In the pilgrims bodies there are nine gateways
And they get lost and travel round and around:
From the first one they get free by the second they are trapped again -
And then they sob a most sorrowful sound.
At the tenth door there is a top secret narrow lane
To locate it not one pilgrim can say . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
There are five chief queens* in the body physical;
The mind is their empire to enjoy.
Each day the guest drinks the gift of the poison
This sensual arbor they think brings them joy.
The ignorant don't know that this nectar is poison
They drink of carnal lust and go astray . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The land of passion is the place of devotion
To guard its door the Sadguru must stay.
With a sweet voice sing of love in a pure song
Chant continuously every day.
Those who forget the path are soon to get lost
Merciful One protect us, we pray . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Bestow upon us the mantra of the name of Ram:
This sound purifies our hearts in every way.
Then the energy that lies dormant gets awakened
Spontaneous sounds freely start to play.
Yogi "Kripalu" takes the path of surrender
Following the route the gods display . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
* The five chief queens are the five physical senses.
